There is currently very little research on the effect of Kambo on humans. While there is no scientific evidence of the benefits of Kambo, thousands of anecdotal accounts suggest that Kambo can be incredibly effective for healing. Despite a large amount of personal accounts, without scientific validation, many still wonder, does Kambo really work?
Many have touted the benefits of Kambo as being profound on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. While Kambo is not a hallucinogenic substance, the ritual and peptides contained in the substance appear to have meaningful benefits for most people.
What is Kambo used for?
Kambo is used for a wide variety of physical and spiritual afflictions. Many participants have found relief from their physical symptoms of various diseases such as Lyme disease, autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, infections, herpes, fatigue, diabetes and more.
Some people also report substantial improvement in their depression and anxiety symptoms. Kambo is also used to combat addiction, grief, PTSD and other complex psychoemotional illnesses.
Others may use Kambo purely for spiritual purposes, as many believe it to be a useful tool in realigning chakras, cleansing oneself of negative energies, and releasing spiritual blockages.
Traditional use
Originally, Kambo was used by the indigenous tribes of the Amazon. Some tribes, such as the Matses use Kambo in preparation for multi-day hunts. They found that it would increase their endurance, stamina, and reduce their need for food and water. They would also take it to increase strength in tribal members who were warriors.
The indigenous Amazonian tribes would use Kambo as a physical medicine as well for things like snake bites, malaria, spider bites, and something called “panema”. Panema is the equivalent of bad luck, or a dark negative cloud of energy. If someone was feeling lazy, tired, or down, they were said to have “panema”.
How do you feel after Kambo?
The days and weeks following Kambo are when most of the benefits are felt. How you feel after Kambo can largely depend on the person, their intentions for doing Kambo, and the circumstances on their life. A relatively healthy person may feel energized and vibrant the next day, while someone with Lyme disease may experience lethargy, pain, and mild depression as a result of “die-off” from bacteria being targeted.
Often times undesirable symptoms such as pain, brain fog or depression may be lifted after a Kambo experience. Many participants report feeling a sense of peace and well-being. People may also feel mentally clear and grounded.
It is common for people to feel a bit tired immediately after. Those with complicated health conditions may feel sluggish for a couple of days. This is ultimately a good sign that the Kambo is working to improve health overall. Usually, after a few days, the participant is feeling better than before the session.
Sometimes the process of going through a Kambo session can initiate an emotional upheaval. It’s normal to feel very emotionally sensitive after Kambo. Sometimes participants can feel a little disoriented, confused or distraught. This usually passes within a few days and is replaced by clarity and a sense of empowerment.
